Two Prestigious Faculty Teaching Prizes

David Harrington, acting chair, won the Senior Faculty Levenson Award and Stephen Blyth, also managing director of HMC, won the Phi Beta Kappa Prize. This was an extraordinary year for the department!

Bo Jiang Wins Dempster Award

Congratulations to Bo Jiang, who just completed his Statistics PhD, on being this year's Arthur P. Dempster awardee. Here is the abstract for his winning paper.

Five Hoopes Prizes for Statistics

Kudos to graduating seniors Alice Xiang, Jessica Hwang, Keli Liu, Michele Zemplenyi and Raj Bhuptani for winning Harvard’s highest honor for undergraduate writing! Donald Rubin, Joseph Blitzstein, Xiao-Li Meng, Tirthankar Dasgupta and Luke Miratrix were their thesis advisors.

New Professor Wins Recognition

Luke Bornn, our newest assistant professor, won the Pierre Robillard Award awarded annually by the Statistical Society of Canada to recognize the best PhD thesis in probability or statistics defended at a Canadian university during the previous year.

New England Symposium on Statistics in Sports

2013 NESSIS will be a meeting of statisticians and quantitative analysts connected with sports teams, sports media, and universities to discuss common problems of interest in statistical modeling and analysis of sports data. It will occur Saturday, September 21, 2013 at Harvard. Here is more information.

Online STAT 110 Receives Accolades

Our online probability course has recently been praised here (by an aerospace engineer and a cardiologist, among others). The center of all this attention, Joseph Blitzstein, won the Star Family Advising Prize and was interviewed here.
